Bureau that works with social network analysis. FAS.research was founded in 1997 and has bureaus in New York and San Francisco and in the 9th. district of Vienna.
2   Link   Institute for Social-Ecology Vienna
The Institute of Social Ecology focuses on interactions between social and natural systems, viewing them as structurally coupled, investigating the co-evolutionary changes that occur to social and natural systems. An interdisciplinary conceptual language and methodological tools that make adequate use of both social and natural science knowledge are key to our work.

Tags: Resilience, social-ecological system, blog

The Resilience Science weblog is operated by Garry Peterson, a professor in Geography and the School of the Environment at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. It was started in early 2005 by Garry Peterson and Marco Janssen as an experiment to communicate recent work by and of interest to those interested in resilience in social ecological systems

Link to Bart Koskos Webpage. He is the developer of fuzzy cognitive mapping. There you will find information about him and links to a list of his articles.
5   Link   iapad (integrated approaches to participatory development
Tags: Mapping, Participation, GIS, Community

Participatory GIS iis the result of a spontaneous merger of Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) methods with Geographic Information Technologies and Systems (GIT&S) to compose peoples’ spatial knowledge in the forms of virtual or physical, 2 or 3 dimensional maps used as interactive vehicles for discussion, information exchange, analysis and as support in advocacy, decision making and action taking. PGIS practice is usually geared towards community empowerment through measured, demand-driven, user-friendly and integrated applications of GIT&S, where maps become a major conduit in the process.
6   Link   Resilience Alliance
Tags: Resilience, social-ecological system, complex adaptive system

The Resilience Alliance is a research organization comprised of scientists and practitioners from many disciplines who collaborate to explore the dynamics of social-ecological systems. The body of knowledge developed by the RA, encompasses key concepts of resilience, adaptability and transformability and provides a foundation for sustainable development policy and practice.

Tags: Mapping, controversis, tools

MACOSPOL is a joint research enterprise that gathers scholars in science, technology and society across Europe. Its goal is to devise a collaborative platform to help students, professionals and citizens in mapping out scientific and technical controversies.
9   Link   CORMAS
Tags: ABM, Social-ecological system, resource use, participative modelling

This site is devoted to the applied modelling of relationship between societies and their environment. This site is maintaine by the Green research unit from CIRAD. You will find here what we and our partners are doing with multi-agent systems about integrated natural resources management.
We are proposing a companion-modelling approach based on a computer tool, CORMAS, which is an agent-based simulation framework that can be downloaded free of charge.
10   Link   ALTER-Net
Tags: Biodiversity, Interdisciplinary, Project, FCM

ALTER-Net is a network of 22 partner institutes from 17 European countries. ALTER-Net integrates research capacities across Europe: assessing changes in biodiversity, analyzing the effect of those changes on ecosystem services and informing the public and policy makers about this at a European scale. Originally funded by the European Union’s Framework VI program to stimulate a collaborative approach, ALTER-Net is now operating independently.

Alter-Net has funded some of the projects we were engaged in (Thank you!). you can find reports concerning FCM - but you have to register first at their site.
11   Link   Integartive Ecosystems and Landscape Modelling
tags: integrative modelling, landscape, project, interaction

There is definitely a great need for scientific-based, user-friendly, game-like platforms for integrative landscape modelling, enabling either scientists or multiple stakeholders to test their landscape design and management ideas in the light of economical, ecological and environmental constraints....
...objective is to put together various teams, each of them having developed, with a specific scientific focus, its own model or platform for simulating landscape structure and functioning. The challenge is to manage to link these models and platforms in a general conceptual and modelling framework, enabling to consider the main biological, physical, geographical and socio-economical interactions impacting ecosystems and landscape functioning and management.
12   Link   COSY - publications
tags: Complex systems, network research, open access publications

The Complex Systems Research Group (COSY) pursues quantitative complex systems research at the Medical University of Vienna - ranging from life science, quantitative social sciences, to applied mathematics and fundamental physics.
They offer some interesting articles on their HP ranging from topics like ", Pruning the tree of life: k-core percolation as a selection mechanism" (Journal of Theoretical Biology) to "To how many politicians should government be left?".
13   Link   The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change
Tags: Gloabal environmental change, project, Interdisciplinary

The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change works toward understanding and addressing the effects of individuals and societies on global environmental change, and how such global changes, in turn, affect humans. By integrating humans into the debate on global environmental change, IHDP addresses some of the most poignant, and widespread challenges of our day. As such, it is a producer of new knowledge that can flow into the work of scientific assessments of other organizations and enhance their ability to answer critical questions of interest to the policy world.
14   Link   OpenABM Consortium
Tags: Agent based modelling, community, web-site

The OpenABM Consortium is a group of researchers, educators, and professionals with a common goal - improving the way we develop, share, and utilize agent based models. We are currently developing a model archive to preserve and maintain the digital artifacts and source code comprising an agent based model. We encourage you to add your models to the model archive. Note: you will need to register as a member before you can upload models.
15   Link   ComMod : a Companion Modelling Approach
Tags: participative modelling, cormas, companion modelling approach

The Authors state;
"We have worked for a number of years in the field of renewable resource management, using various tools, particularly Agent-Based Models and Role-Playing Games, to tackle issues regarding decision processes, common property, co-ordination among actors, etc. Working with models and games has been a mean to cross disciplines boundaries and to acknowledge the complex nature of the systems under study. This choice led us to formalise our relation to modelling within a companion modelling approach. At a time when models and simulations to tackle complexity and for decision support are flourishing, we found important to precise the contents of this approach, which should be understood as a scientific posture more than a modelling handbook. Modelling is merely an intermediary object facilitating our collective and interdisciplinary thought."
16   Link   ALBAECO
Albaeco’s mission is to communicate the latest in sustainability science with a focus on Nature’s importance to society and the economy. Albaeco spreads easy-to-grasp information on how human societies depend on functioning ecosystems, and how societies influence the capacity of ecosystems to sustain human well-being. The information is available for practical use by policy-makers, businesses, schools, media and the general public.
